Ok, not that type. Windows 8 on my PC is giving me fits. Slowed way down. Similar happened when it had issues downloading/installing an update a while back. Doing battle with it now. Would rather be doing almost anything else. Anyone posting that I should be running a Mac will be slapped.

How hard would it be to reinstall all your programs? the windows refresh works pretty well as long as you have some time to reinstall your programs, I had to use it on my bro in-laws laptop as I couldn't scrape all the malware off his system with my usual tricks.

Running an SSD? Do you even TRIM bro?

edit - a major update may also result in some major reindexing afterwards. What kind of update you talking about?

This is why I stopped updates, had more trouble than success. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Updates generally result in anger and broken shit around the office.

You should be running a *NIX system.

Am I the only one here who has no issues with Windows 8.1? Runs fine on six of my computers, updates usually improve things, the start screen took a little getting used to but it's a GODSEND on things like my tablet or using the computer from the couch, and holy shit Windows 8 smashes Windows 7 in performance.

Honestly, though, now that I have three computers with SSDs I can not imaging how people are living with spinning-platter hard drives. Especially now that it's $60 or so for a 120gb EVO

no complaints most of the time from me, but this is the second time it has slowed way down like this. Last time was a few months ago. No virus, chkdsk came back good and Win update says I'm good to go. When I went into program manager it looked like Carbonite might have been running a bit nuts, that pausing it didn't seem to help much.

Running an older or maybe slower processor and just went through a bunch of updates? My old machine would slow way down sometimes for more than a day after downloading a big set up updates. I ended it letting it do it's thing over night...

When you chkdsk, did you look for bad sectors? Gotta do that. A sector in a popular area that blows 50% of reads and writes will slow that mother down like you can't believe.

I dunno if they make an equivalent for Windows, but I've fixed low-speed toasters and turned them back into Mac's again with DiskWarrior. A fine product and concept if you can find it.

I told it to fix them, so I assume they were looking. Thanks for the recommendation on DiskWarrior. I will have to look into that.
